Video: UP groom clings to moving truck to chase man who stole note from garland

A video of a groom clinging to a moving truck in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut has gone viral on social media. The drama unfolded during a wedding procession when a man snatched a currency note from the groom’s garland and fled the scene.
The groom, who was on his way to a temple after the ceremonial ghudchadhi (groom’s horse ride), left the rituals and chased after the thief. The accused jumped into a moving loader truck in a bid to escape. The groom clung to the truck’s window too following him. When the driver refused to stop the vehicle, the groom remained latched onto the vehicle as it sped ahead, drawing attention from onlookers.

Family members and wedding guests also joined the chase. Eventually, the truck was forced to stop, and the enraged groom, along with his relatives, assaulted the driver, taking him for the accused.
A passerby recorded the entire episode on their mobile phone. The video, which prominently features a building with “Namaste Meerut” painted on it, has gone viral on social media platforms.
The truck belongs to a local transport company whose owner, Manish Sehgal, shared a different perspective. According to Sehgal, their driver, Jagpal, was unaware of the commotion behind him. He claimed the groom accused the truck of brushing against him on the road, which led to the dramatic chase. Sehgal further alleged that the groom and his party assaulted the driver despite him having no connection to the stolen note.
“We have reported the incident to the police and plan to take legal action against the attackers,” Sehgal said.
